Annie Avilla Ancheta, 89, of Salinas passed away peacefully with family by her side at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Tuesday, April 13, 2010.
She was born July 23, 1920 in Honolulu, HI. She lived in Salinas for 87 years.
Annie was a loving, caring, giving mother and grandmother. She was crowned "Miss Philippines" in 1933, at the tender age of 16. She served as President for the Filipino Women's Club of Salinas during 1954-1956. Annie was also Secretary for the 1st and 2nd Filipino Combat Infantry Regiment. As a little girl living in Boronda; she walked to Graves School in every kind of weather everyday. Later, she attended and graduated from Salinas High School and enjoyed taking fun classes at Hartnell College. Annie lived the simple life. She loved eating her sweet pastries, chicken BBQ's, watching sports, listening to Hawaiian music and gardening in her yard. In her early years, she enjoyed dancing.

Survivors: Daughters, Patricia Johnson of Salinas, Karen Martinez and John Orfanides of Salinas; sons, Warren (Gloria) Ancheta of Hemet, Johnny (Rose) Ancheta of Prunedale, Jose (Bertha) Ancheta, Jr. of Salinas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Julian (Shirely) Avilla of Gilroy; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
Preceded in death by her husband, Jose G. Ancheta; son, Jerry Ancheta; siblings, Peter, Rufina, Lucille and Louie.
Visitation: From 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Road.
Funeral Services: 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2010 at Healey Mortuary Chapel .
Burial: Garden of Memories Cemetery 850 Abbott Street Salinas, CA 93901.
