Mrs. Louise Barnhart, 87, who until a few weeks ago had made her home with her son, Harvey E. Barnhart, Elkhart, died Friday morning at the home of her daughter, mars. Nellie Heir in Osceola. She had been in failing health for several months, but was seriously ill for only 3 or 4 days.
Mrs. Barnhart was born in Olive township Elkhart county, Feb. 27, 1859, the daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth (Fink) Madlem.
She lived in Osceola for 40 years until 3 years ago when she went to Elkhart to live with her son. As Miss Louise Madlem, she was married Feb. 16, 1879 in Olive township to John Barnhart. He died March 22, 1928.
Surviving other than Mrs. Heir and her son, Harve, are two sons, George R. Barnhart of Chicago, and John M. Barnhart of Osceola; four daughters, Mrs. Nora C. Minegar, Mrs. Bertha E. Neely, of Osceola; Mrs. Jennie M. Eldrige and Mrs. Anna A. Schiltz, of Elkhart; 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Aaron, Samuel and Allen Madlem, all of Elkhart, and three sisters, mars. Frank Sanders, of Elgin, Ill.; Mrs. W. F. Lockwood, of Adamsville, Mich., and Mrs. Levi Weldy of this place.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Osceola Methodist church, of which she was a member. The Rev. L. Wane Eller, pastor, officiating. Burial in Olive cemetery, north of here. Grandsons of the deceased were pallbearers.
