Albert Shorten

Born on August 1, 1870 at Smithfield, Cache County, Utah, a son of James Bussy Shorten and Hannah Thacker Shorten.

He married widow, Margaret Anna (Parks) Shirley on April 19, 1894 at Logan, Cache, Utah, a daughter of Rev. Calvin M Parks and Susan Van Ness Parks. She had been married previously to Robert Quincy Shirley in Logan in 1879, Her late husband was a Point Graduate and was appointed Post Master of Logan in the 1870's. He died shortly after of consumption.

Albert and Maggie were the first of the Shorten family members to move to Los Angeles in 1895. His parents and others came later. Albert later owned the Los Angeles Preserving Company and was also successful in real estate investments.

Albert and his wife Margaret had two daughters, Alice Van Ness ((born 1895) and Margaret Lois (born 1897).

Compiled by Rosalyn Woodward Slade from notes and records found in the files of Chloe Thacker Slade.

Interesting Point: the records in the Utah marriage records state that Alfred was born in 1861. That info is not correct.
