Elver moved from Iowa to eastern Washington as a very small boy and as an adult he farmed in the St. Andrews, Hartline and Dalkena areas of WA until he retired. He married Esther Cox and had 10 children; of those 2 died at birth or shortly thereafter. Elver was the son of George Albert Buckley and Ellen Eudora McCullough. He had 2 brothers and 4 sisters (several others died at birth).
