Thomas Dillon (c1818-1885), son of John Dillon and Rachel Hamilton, was born in Greene Co., PA. (The Civil War records for Thomas indicate he was born in Greene Co., PA and was 44 years of age in 1862.) He married Sarah Ann Morris c1836, presumably in Monroe Co., OH. According to the Monroe Co. Census, Sarah Ann was about the same age as Thomas Dillon. Thomas had come to Monroe Co. with his family a year or so earlier, when his family had settled down in Summit and Seneca Twps to the west of Lewisville. It is believed the first child of Thomas and Sarah died in infancy and may have been named of the Dillon family of Thomas. Their second child, William Morris, was named after the father of Sarah Morris, whose family were close neighbors of the Dillons. These Dillons and Morrises had probably been neighbors in PA. The third child of Thomas and Sarah, Anna Dillon (so named after Sarah's mother, Anna Wells), married William "Billy" Denbow, who also served in Co. K, 78th Ohio Inf. with Thomas. Thomas and Sarah eventually purchased and exchange several properties in western and southwestern Monroe Co. This photo of the Thomas Dillon gravesite is taken in the Southerland Methodist Cemetery, near Stafford. Thomas is buried next to his father-in-law William Morris, presumably the same individual from whom Thomas purchased local property and the father-in-law of his sister, Mary Dillon Morris. According to his Civil War record, Thomas was discharged by "Surgeon's Certificate" after completing less than one year of his three year enlistment. He was "5 feet 8 1/2 inches high, 'had' fair complexion, blue eyes, grey hair."
