Thomas R. "T.R." Clifton, age 85 of Ailey, died Friday, April 9, 2010 at his home after a brief illness. He was a native of Toombs County and had lived in Montgomery County since 1947. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theater of Operation. He was a retired farmer, was a director with ASCS Farm Service Agency for thirty-two years, and was a director with the Department of Family and Children Services in Montgomery County for thirty-four years and retired in 2005. He retired in 2008 as a director with Farm Bureau in Montgomery County after forty years. He was a member of the McGregor Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Lula Tomlin Clifton.

Mr. Clifton is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Mary C. Clifton of Ailey, one son, Johnny Clifton and wife, Gloria of Ailey, three grandchildren, Candice of Savannah; Derek of Pooler, and Clay of Ailey, two sisters, Louie Dean Osborne of Lyons; and Doris Fant of Vidalia, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 11th at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend David Blalock officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, C/O Trudy Bowen, 201 Maple Drive, Vidalia, GA.
