Clyde was the third of four children born to Homer rufus and Annie Lee (Young) Bass. He married (1) Dorothy (Gilley) and they had three daughters: Brenda, Betty and Barbara. He married (2) Polly L. (unknown). No known children from this union.

Clyde H. Bass, 84, passed away at Riverside Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002.
A native of Statesville, N.C., he had been a Peninsula resident since 1941. He retired from the Newport News Shipyard, as a welding supervisor, in 1965. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of First United Methodist Church. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason, Mariner's Lodge A.F. & A.M.
Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy G. Bass; his parents, Homer and Annie Young Bass and a sister, Luanna Gibson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Polly L. Bass; stepdaughter, Billie Jo Gribble and her husband, Donnie of Newport News; stepson, Harry Grizzle and his wife, Janet of Littleton, N.C.; a favorite grandson, Michael Barel of California; two sisters, Rachael Collins and Lucille Holsclaw, both of Rocky Mount; a loving and devoted cousin, Elva Oswalt of Statesville, N.C. and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 28 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
