Was married to Arty Milsey Coburn (3 Oct 1831) in January of 1849and had one child- Green Berry May.

Richard died of the measles during the Civil War. He was in
Co F, 39th MS Infantry, and Co H, 6th MS Infantry. Prior to the war he lived
in Simpson County MS and was a farmer.

Richard served in Company H, 6th Mississippi Infantry and died 01 May 1863 during the Battle of Port Gibson/Thompson's Hill. He was the son of James William May and Nancy Tullos of Simpson County, MS.
