Mary Margaret Merrell, 76, of St. Patrick, died Tuesday, October 10, 1995, in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill. Born May 8, 1919, in St. Patrick, she was a daughter of John Henry and Katheryn McQuire Riney. She married Lathan E. Merrell in Ewing in 1941. He died Dec. 7, 1982. Mrs. Merrell was a graduate of St. Patrick High School and attended Southeaster Community College in Keokuk, Iowa. She was a bookkeeper for many years in Iowa and was a switchboard operator at Culver-Stockton College in Canton before retiring in 1981. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Canton, Marquette Circle, Daughters of Isabella in Keokuk, and the Third Order of Fransicans in Quincy. Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Wayne (Willa A.) Wheeler of Quincy; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and James Riney. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Canton by the Rev. David Cox and the Rev. James Wheeler. Arrangements were handled by Davis Funeral Home in Canton. Music was provided by Nancy Tiemann. Pallbearers were Larry Jones, Dale Waterman, Roger Evans, Glenn Griesbaum, Bob Predmore and Bill Morris. Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Thomas Seminary in Hannibal.
