"Funeral rites for James William Blanka, 89, who died Friday, Jan. 19, 1990, at his home west of Canton, were Monday, Jan. 22, at the Canton First Christian Church. Ralph Davis, Dillon Marsh and Vernon Garrison officiated. Burial was in Fountain Cemetery under the direction of Haigler Funeral Home.
"He was born Oct. 31, 1900, in Westmoreland, Kan., to Henry and Mary Blanka and moved to Oklahoma in the spring of 1908, settling in eastern Dewey County. In 1911 the family moved to the Glenwood community. He attended schools at Glenwood and Leonel. In 1921 the family moved to the T. C. Knoop farm, which he later purchased. He was a farmer and rancher.
"He was a member of the Canton Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent and deacon for more than 20 years.
"On Feb. 12, 1945, he married Jennie Lula Van Meter. She died in 1971. He and Lois Faye Daniels were married April 5, 1972, in Canton.
"Surviving are his wife, a brother, George, Grand Junction, Colo., and three sisters, Stella Skinner of Oklahoma City, Minnie Mitchel of Arapaho, Colo., and Thelma VanMeter of Canton.
"He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
"Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Okeene Hospital renovation fund or the Canton Library."
