ONEIDA Mary E. Brantis, 74, of 3745 Prospect St., Oneida, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at the Oneida Healthcare Center, following a brief illness.

She was born on Sept. 20, 1935, in Chemung, N.Y., a daughter of Charles and Mildred Blanchard Seymour.

Mary spent her early years in Carthage, later moving to Troy where she was a 1958 graduate of Catholic Central High School. Mary spent several years in Canastota, moving to Houston, Texas, for seven years. She moved back to the Wampsville/Oneida area in 1994.

She worked for Gray Syracuse in Manlius for seven years, and had previously worked for Weatherford International in Houston, Texas, and for RNH in Canastota.

She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Canastota.

Mary married Robert W. Brantis Sr., on Oct. 3, 1970, in Canastota. Bob died on March 8, 2007.

Surviving are one son, James Arena and Khristi Polk of Georgetown, Texas; one daughter, Sandra Brantis of Utica; one stepdaughter and her husband, Cheryl and Lawrence Wickham of Peterboro; two stepsons, Brian Brantis of Syracuse and Ronald Brantis of Cicero; eight grandchildren, Corey Arena, James Arena Jr., Rebekah Arena, Heather Wickham, Melissa and Jeff Douglas, Savanah Brantis, Dylan Brantis and William Brantis; one great-grandson, Mason Douglas; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by a son, Dwayne Arena; one stepson, Robert W. Brantis Jr.; one stepdaughter, Deborah Brantis; and a sister, Shirley Seeber.

Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., Canastota. The Rev. William M. Wilcox, pastor of Fyler Community Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Lenox Rural Cemetery, Canastota. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday (tomorrow), prior to the service, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home, 201 James St., Canastota. In her memory, contributions may be made to the Greater Lenox Ambulance Service, PO Box 382, Canastota, NY 13032, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
