Sophia Batton Anderson Ballou was the daughter of Dr. Thomas Anderson and Mary Danielson and the wife of Seth Ballou. She and her husband moved to Independence, Cuyahoga Co, OH, in 1819. During a trip to Illinois in 1830 Sophia died unexpectedly and was buried there. Her widowed husband then relocated with his children to St. Joseph Co, MI. and didn't remarry. This is a cenotaph.
