• Two unidentified Barnstead men who witnessed the accident administered CPR to Philbrick before emergency vehicles arrived on the scene. Officers from Tilton, Sanbornton and New Hampton police departments as well as the State Police were called to the scene.
Philbrick was an active member of the community who had served as a member of the Wentworth School Board and was in the National Guard. He had also served in the U.S. Army for four years and in Vietnam. He was employed by the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative, Inc. The Record Enterprise, June 10, 1998.
• • Leslie Wilbur Philbrick, 55, died June 2, 1998 as a result of injuries he suffered in a car accident on Interstate 93. He was born in Littleton on March 30, 1943 the son of Wilbur S. and Beatrice Dion Philbrick. He attended elementary and high schools in Plymouth. He was a starring player in high school sports.
Mr. Philbrick was known statewide for his guitar playing. He played in several bands including Crossfires, The Country Travelers and Ray Marden's Country Band. He also played backup for many country and western stars at the country and western jamborees held in the southern part of the state.
Mr. Philbrick enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1964. He was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC. He served in Vietnam during the last six months of his tour of duty. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr Philbrick grew up in Plymouth. He also lived in Thornton, Wentworth and Concord. While living in Wentworth, Philbrick played in various area bands. He also worked at Oceanside Machine Shop as a machinist and at N.H. Electric Cooperative, Inc. as an appliance salesman, safety director and newswriter. He also worked at the post office in Manchester.
Family members include four daughters, Rebecca Philbrick, Marilyn Philbrick, Susan Philbrick and Mary Philbrick; a son, Thomas Philbrick; two brothers, Frank Philbrick of Hebron, Conn., and Dennis Philbrick of Claremont. The funeral was Saturday at Plymouth Congregational Church on the Common, Plymouth. Burial followed at Pleasant View Cemetery, with military honors and a brief committal service following the funeral.
