Charley S Roberts, a former resident of this county passed away at the Mennonite hospital in La Junta, Colorado, October 18 after an illness of a few days. He was born in Joliet, Illinois, August 8, 1871 and lived in Iowa and Nebraska before coming to Kansas in 1893 where he lived until 1919 when he moved to Colorado.

He was married to Miss Ida Barnes in 1889 in Nebraska. She passed away in 1912. In 1914 he married Mrs. Mary Cornish and after her death in October 1931 he made his home with a nephew Floyd Roberts and family for fifteen years. For the past five years he has made his home with his niece Mrs. Clarence (Darlene) Merwin and family in Las Animas. He made many visits to Kansas and Oklahoma to visit his sisters and their families.

He is survived by his son Ralph Roberts of Hutchinson, one brother and five sisters, many nieces and nephews, many grand nieces and nephews and 31 great grand nieces and nephews and a granddaughter and many friends.

The funeral services were in Las Animas Sunday with the Peacock Funeral Home of La Junta in charge and the Rev. Marvin Jagger, pastor of the Nazarene Church of Las Animas officiating.

The remains were brought to Jetmore Monday accompanied by his pastor and his brother and family and other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted at the Halling Funeral Home, Monday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. Marvin Jagger, pastor of the Nazarene Church of Las Animas, Colorado. Mrs. Roy Smith and Mrs. Willard Zuehlke sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul," "Am I a Soldier of The Cross," and The Old Rugged Cross" with Mrs. R. C. Nuss accompanist.

The pall bearers were Joe and Malcolm McKibben, Bert and Ralph Brumfield, Clarence Watson and Abe Rasmussen. Interment was in Fairmount Cemetery beside his wife who passed away in 1931.
