John Phillip Hartley, 61, of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at his residence.
His wife, Linda R. Valentine Hartley, whom he married Aug. 18, 1995, survives.
Mr. Hartley was born Jan. 31, 1949 in Wilmington, the son of the late Dale and Veda Mae Davis Hartley. He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. During his military service he did three tours in Vietnam. He was a semi-trailer mechanic. He worked for NNK Trailer Repair in Sharonville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John Paul (Gail) Hartley of Hillsboro and Patrick Allen Hartley (Rebecca) Fraley of Jeffersonville; a daughter, Veda Mae (Scott) Schafer of Jeffersonville; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Frank Meinike of Newtonsville; two brothers and three brothers-in-law, Randy and Josephine Hartley of Hillsboro, Richard and Marilyn Hartley of Lees Creek and Brenda Hartley of Blanchester; four grandsons; three granddaughters; four aunts, Kate Stivers of Florida, Pat (Larry) Prevo of Michigan, Mary Barton of Columbus and Leatha Stanforth of Hillsboro; and several nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. In addition to his parents, a brother, Thomas Hartley; and a stepdaughter, Kimberly Valentine, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, April 5 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home in Wilmington. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
