John "Jack" Van Order, Sr., age 91, Wittenberg, died Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at the Homme Home of Wittenberg.

He was born November 22, 1916 in Stevens Point the son of the late John and Helen (Hoffman) Van Order.

Jack was a US Army Air Force Veteran serving during WWII. He enjoyed telling his children and grandchildren of his time spent in the Army Air Force. He was very proud of his service to his country.

Jack was united in marriage to Thelma E. Gunderson on May 30, 1943 in Marysville, Kansas. She preceded him in death on July 25, 1998.

He was a tech inspector at the Stevens Point Airport for many years. Jack was a self employed TV and radio repairman and worked at the former Cappel's Department Store and the former Jerry's Hardware, both of Wittenberg. He had also been employed at FWD, Clintonville. Jack enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and motorcycles.

Survivors include six children, Jack (Sally "Cookie") Van Order, Jr., Birnamwood, Michael (Connie) Van Order, Marion, Cheryl (John) Janssen, Hortonville, Joe (Carla Hollander) Van Order, Paicines, CA, Robert (Terry) Van Order, Wausau and Wendy (Joe) Bushman, Galloway; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, half brother, Ray Van Order, Oregon, four brothers-in-law, Magnus (Gloria) Gunderson, Milwaukee, Kenneth (Marilyn) Gunderson, Schofield, Pat (Jean) Gunderson, Eland and Dale Gunderson, Wittenberg, one sister-in-law, Jacqueline Gunderson, Wittenberg .

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Jay Van Order, five sisters, one half-sister and one half-brother and his foster parents Gene and Evelyn Pautsch.

Private family services will be held. Interment will be in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Wittenberg with military rites conducted by the Bloecher-Johnson American Legion Post #502, Wittenberg.
