James H. Beneifel, serving his nineteenth year as principal of the Coffeyville Junior High school..he was graduated from the Coffeyville high school in 1911. In 1920 he received the bachelor of Science degree from KS State Tchrs College @ Pitsburg, KS; and in 1927, he received his master's degree from the Univ. of Chicago; member of Kappa Delta Pi. Mr. Benefiel's first teachign experience was one year at Earlton, KS; then in the high school at Edna 1914-1916. He was principal of the Chetopa H.S., 1916-1917; in 1919-1920 he was supt. of schools at Edna. He was principal of Longfellow school here three years, when he became the first principal of the newly created junior high school in its new building. He has since continued in the capacity.
He had long been a factor in boys work, a consister member of the Lions Club since its organization, 20 years its organist. (the book ILLUSTRIANA said Mrs. Benefiel was church organist ??). He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and American legion. In 1918 he was a member of Company 57, 164 Depot Brigade at Camp Funston. His hobbies have been music and choir work.
Mrs. Benefiel, too, is an able musician and has served liberally on all types of occasions where music was needed. Both are unstinting in giving of themselves to the service of the community and church.
He married Gladys Winifred Rush in Freeburg, Ill. on July 8, 1928, they are the parents of two children.
