Hannah BRADFORD Sherwood was born March 9, 1747/48 in Kingston, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts, the seventh of nine children born to Joshua Bradford & Hannah BRADFORD Bradford.

Hannah's parents, Joshua & Hannah moved from Kingston, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts and settled on a small island in Medoncock (later called Friendship), Maine, where Joshua was a farmer. Although Hannah's father Joshua didn't fear local Indians, having saved the life of the chief from drowning after falling through the ice, his family suffered a surprise attack in May, 1758, when Hannah was about nine years old. Joshua was grinding corn at the time, so he didn't hear the warning shot from the nearby fort. Both of Hannah's parents, Joshua and Hannah were killed and scalped in the surprise raid on their home. The Indians also killed the youngest member of the family, baby Winslow. Most of the children ran towards the fort but Hannah's older sister Melathiah hid under a bed with their little brother Elisha Bradford. When Elisha began to cry, Melathiah crept out and made a dash for the fort. The Indians caught up with Melathiah and gave her a ugly wound which was said to have severed two lower ribs from her spine. A soldier from the fort rescued her. Two of Hannah's brothers were kidnapped by the Indians and taken to Canada. The other children, including Hannah, made it to the fort. Hannah was raised by Deborah Sampson, her Aunt.

On November 2, 1772 Hannah BRADFORD was married to Ebenezer Bradford Sherwood in Cornwall, Litchfield Co., Connecticut.

Hannah & Ebenezer had nine children:
Joshua Bradford Sherwood
John Sherwood
Mary Sherwood
Mary "Molly" Sherwood
Ebenezer Sherwood
Orilla SHERWOOD Bonney
Hannah SHERWOOD Paine
Sarah SHERWOOD Pierce
Thomas Bradford Sherwood

After Ebenezer passed away, Hannah's second marriage was to Dr. Frederick Augustus "Heber" Crowner (b. Germany) on Sept. 30, 1788 in Cornwall, Litchfield County, Connecticut. They were divorced Aug. 13, 1792.

Hannah's third marriage was to Thaddeus Baldwin

Hannah passed away after 1813 in Nelson, Portage Co. Ohio.

Hannah Sherwood's father Joshua Bradford was the son of Israel Bradford & Sarah BARTLETT Bradford. Israel's parents were William Bradford Jr. & Mary ATWOOD (or WOOD) Bradford.

Hannah BRADFORD Sherwood's mother Hannah BRADFORD Bradford was the daughter of Elisha Bradford & Bathsheba Le BROCK Bradford. Elisha's parents were Joseph Bradford & Jael HOBART Bradford.

Hannah BRADFORD Sherwood's parents were second cousins. Her grandfathers Israel Bradford and Elisha Bradford were grandsons of Governor William Bradford of Plymouth Colony.
