Mr. J. C. Shropshire, 92, formerly of Vine Street, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Greensboro Place.

Mr. Shropshire was born in Greensboro on July 4, 1917 to Jesse Herman and Elsie Davis Shropshire. He was a Navy Veteran and was employed by the City of Greensboro as the manager of Greensboro Country Park. A lifelong resident of Greensboro, J.C. was a member of Emmanuel Wesleyan Church and a volunteer at Moses Cone Hospital for many years.

In addition to his parents, J.C. was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Irene Hammer Shropshire; three brothers, Clarence, Raymond and Herman Shropshire; and two sisters, Ethel Houston and Geneva Brown.

He is survived by one son, Jerry Paul Shropshire and wife Pat of Greensboro; his brother Jack Shropshire, of Greensboro; two grandchildren, J. P. Shropshire II and wife Victoria of Greensboro and Jerrie Ann Edgerton of Greensboro; two great grandchildren, Emily Ann and Michael D. Edgerton.

In my younger days, I use to hang out at Country Park a lot. J.C. was always very nice to me. I felt like we were good friends even as young as I was. I think of those times occasionally and just smile.
