Obituary for Sarah Brown
Sarah Hager Brown, 95, of Chapel Street in Landis, NC died peacefully on March 21st, 2009 at the Croasdaile Village Methodist Retirement Home in Durham, North Carolina.
Mrs. Brown was born in Lincoln County, NC the eighth child of Landy and Dorcas Nixon Hager. She graduated from Lowrance Hospital School of Nursing in Mooresville, NC and finished graduate training in nursing in Philadelphia, PA. She undertook a long career as a Registered Nurse and worked in this profession for more than fifty years including positions at Lowrance Hospital in Mooresville, NC and Cabarrus Hospital in Concord, NC. The majority of her nursing career was spent with the Medical Department of Cannon Mills, first in Concord and then Kannapolis, NC where she was affectionately known as Miss Sallie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry D. Brown. Mrs. Brown is survived by her son, H. Devan Brown and wife Doris, two grandchildren, Chris Brown and wife Amy; Deborah Ballard and husband Dan and five great-grandchildren, all of Durham, NC.
There will be a visitation at Lady's Funeral Home in Kannapolis, NC from ten until eleven o'clock on Wednesday morning, March 25th. A graveside funeral service will follow at 11:45 AM at Willow Valley Cemetery in Mooresville, NC with the Reverend David Franks officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Reformed Church, 210 North Central Avenue, Landis, NC, 28088.
