Death: Dec. 27, 1918

His father, John Charlton was born in Virginia and his mother, Charlotte (Kyle) Charlton born Virginia. Note: possibly both born West Virginia. In 1848 traveling by ox teams they moved to Iowa with their 10 children.

In 1865 Allen joined a wagon train consisting of 104 wagons and it took them 6 months to reach Oregon. It was not an easy trip and many hardships were encountered along the way. Every night they had a watchmen posted to be on the lookout for Indians.

From his obituary in the Citizens Newspaper 3 January 1919: "The wagons were parked in a semicircle and the stock was kept inside the circle where they also had a large fire if fuel was obtainable. At one time they were for days without water. The oxen got tired of going thirsty and one night they stampeded. A party of men followed their tracks and several days later overtook the oxen. They had found water. After 6 months they came to Linn Co, OR and Mr. Charlton located there."

He married Louisa Jane Poindexter 22 November 1873 Albany, Linn County, Oregon.

1880 they were living Santiam, Linn County, Oregon.

They moved to a farm in Lincoln County, WA in 1899.

1900 he was farming at Sedalia, Lincoln County, WA. They had 7 children but only 5 were living. Still at home were Annie born September 1881 Oregon; Clyde born September 1884 Oregon; and Laura born June 1890 Oregon.

1902 they moved to a farm 8 miles south of Harrington, WA.

He died in his Harrington homefrom complications of cancer on his face and head.
