Blanche D. Marten, age 89, formerly of the town of Easton, most recently of Mapleview Apartments, Birnamwood, went to her eternal home on Monday, August 11, 2008 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services surrounded by her children, Pastor Bertsch and good friend and hospice volunteer, Joan Hack.

She was born February 20, 1919 in the town of Ringle, the daughter of the late Alva and Nina (TePaske) Merriam.

On October 9, 1937 Blanche was united in marriage to Arthur Marten in the town of Easton. He preceded her in death on October 11, 1995.

She was formerly employed at Club Normandy, Marathon Battery and Wausau Insurance. Blanche was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Birnamwood and its Ladies Aide. She was a very active member in church and was also a member of the WWER Homemakers Club. She enjoyed bingo, puzzles, baking, canning, making family meals, Christmas cookies, breads and candies.

Survivors include one son, Larry (Shirley) Marten, Ringle; three daughters, Marjorie (James) Laffin, Wausau, Lorraine (Jack) Christensen, Hatley and Donna (Gary) Meyer, Ringle; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Darren (Katie) Laffin and their children Tanner and Collin, John (Sue) Christensen, Carrie Butenhoff and daughter, Ember; Candace (Jeff) Klueckman and their children Miranda, Colten and Caleb, Chad (Cindy) Marten, Tim (Charmain) Christensen and their children Rebecca and Nicole; and Travis (Sara) Meyer with one on the way; one brother, Richard (Lucille) Merriam, Ringle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Blanche was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Merriam and one sister, Agnes "Peggy" O'Nan.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11AM on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Birnamwood. The Rev. Dean Bertsch will officiate. Interment will be in Forestville Cemetery, town of Easton. Friends may call on Wednesday from 3PM to 7PM at Schmidt Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood and again from 10AM until the time of services on Thursday at the church. Schmidt Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood is assisting the family with arrangements.
