Birth: 1836
Sullivan County
New York, USA
Death: Aug. 29, 1923
Orange County
New York, USA

On Aug. 29th, at his home on Broad St., in the city of Middletown, Alexander H. Brown passed into the unknown world. The deceased was born at Wurtsboro and had reached the ripe old age of 87 years. His parents were the late Alexander and Eleanor Loder Brown. During the Civil War, when the country seemed rent asunder by the awful strife and terror of war, Mr. Brown ventured into the world of matrimony, taking as the partner of his joys and burdens, Miss Hannah Miller, of his native town. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Israella Morrison and Charlotte E. Brown. When the 143rd New York Regiment went to the front to maintain the Union, Mr. Brown was among the number, going out as sergeant. At the close of the war he had been promoted to the rank of a lieutenant. He was in all the engagements of his regiment, and was a warm friend of Sergeant McMillen, of Monticello. His funeral was held last Friday, at which the Rev. F. P. Hunter officiated. Civil War survivors were the pall bearers, and they interred him in the Sylvan Cemetery at Wurtsboro. Thus rests from his cares a noble hero of home and country.
