Amelia was a loving wife and mother. She was the wife of John Adam Bertsch, married on 01 June 1875 in Galena, JoDaviess County, Illinois. John died on 19 May 1906 in Galena. After John's death, the family moved west to Washington state. She was the mother of eight children. One son, John Leonard Bertsch, fought in World War One and was killed in battle. He is buried in an American war cemetery in France. Amelia was a good and faithful wife and mother, who loved God and respected His commandments.

Mrs. Amelia Bertsch, 84, died Friday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. V. Harkins, 3922 North 19th street. She was a native of Illinois and moved to Tacoma two years ago from California. She was a Gold Star mother and a member of the War Mothers of San Francisco as well as the Altar society of the Catholic church.

Mrs. Bertsch is survived by one son, Francis, of Spokane; three daughters, Mrs. E. F. Toepel of Spokane, Mrs. A. V. Harkins of Tacoma and Mrs. J. L. Sherrod, San Diego, Cal.; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Gaffney's will announce the funeral.
