Helena Smith died at Claremont General Hospital in Claremont, NH on April 26, 1965 after a long illness. She was born on March 19, 1896 in Brattleboro, VT; the daughter of Antoine and Cyrena (Nason) Nicholas.

She lived in Claremont for fifty years. She attended the First Baptist Church, was a member of the World War Mothers Club and the Daughters of Pocohontas.

She married George Smith on September 3, 1914 in Claremont who preceded her in death.

Surviving are five sons Harold Smith of West Peterborough, NH, Robert Smith of Hudson, NH, Leonard Smith of Concord, NH [died 1972], Lloyd Smith of Manchester, NH and George Smith of San Jose, CA; three daughters, Rosanna Frasier and Margaret Johnson both of Claremont, NH and Ruth Lavoie of Sunnyvale, CA; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; five brothers William Nicholas and Edward Nicholas both of Brattleboro, VT, Ralph Nicholas of Pittsfield, MA, Floyd Nicholas of Concord, NH and Julius Nicholas of Hanover, NH; and six sisters Amelia Bradley of New Brunswick, NJ, Alice Corbett, Ruth Ouger and Elizabeth Cripps all of Brattleboro, VT, Charlotte Wrobel of Greenfield, MA, and Grace LaVallee of Tampa, FL.

Burial is in Mtn View Cemetery.
