He was a Confederate soldier in the Civil War; son of Mary "Polly" Phillips and Henry Arnott, Jr.; married to Ellen Sarah Pyles.

Monroe Watchman Obituary:

Henry Watts Arnot died at his home on June 24, 1898 in the 76th year of

his age. He was soundly converted to God at a Camp meeting held at

Centreville, now Greenville, about 60 years ago, and united with the Methodist

Church, and ever after lived a consistent and faithful member of that communion.

For many years he was the class leader of the society at Mt Hedding

Methodist Church, South. He was the class leader of the writer from the time he

united with the Church until he entered the ministry. He belonged to a pious

family originally from Scotland and was closely related to the Rev. Wm

Arnot, a noted divine of Scotland. He adorned his profession by a long life

devoted to the cause of God which he espoused in early life. He rests from toil

and affliction in the Paradise of God and his body awaits the resurrection

of the just at the second coming of the Lord Christ. He is not dead but

sleepeth.

He leaves a widow and seven children to mourn his absence: Two went on

before and they have doubtless met each other already there. Cheer up

sorrowing ones, and be faithful unto death. A great company is assembling there to

greet you at your coming.

Whereas, it pleased Jehovah in His wise providence, to take from us on

Friday evening, June 24, 1898, our aged and beloved brother in Christ, Henry W

Arnot, in the 76th year of his age, therefore be it Resolved by the Mount

Heading M. E. Church, South Sunday School concurring

1st, That we recognize in our deceased brother a true and consistent

Christian, a kind father, a useful and worthy citizen and a good neighbor.

2nd, That by his death our church has been deprived of one of its most

useful members, as he was constant in his attendance at worship, faithful for

many years as our class leader, ever ready to bear a heavy share of the

church's financial burdens, never faulting in emergencies, but ever ready to

cheerfully perform any Christian duty. We miss him from his pew. He is missed

from the family altar, and he is missed as a kind neighbor.

3rd, We, as a church and Sunday school, mourn his loss, but with the glad

hope that we will again see him in a glorious Resurrection,

4th, That we submissively bow to the will of God who called him and who

doeth all things well.

5th, That we extend to the bereaved widow and children our Christian

sympathy with the assurance that their loss is his eternal gain.

6th, That these resolutions be sent to the Monroe Watchman for publication

and a copy sent to the family.
