Son of Peter and Hanna Elizabeth Tatsch.
Husband of Maria Elizabeth Tatsch, a distant cousin. Married on January 26, 1847. John,Maria and their 2 children,a brother and sister-in-law, sailed to Texas in 1852.
John Peter was a Master Cabinetmaker; when he arrived in Fredericksburg, he began making furniture of local woods.
The home he built of stone with an interior stairway, a huge fireplace and chimney in one corner. The home is listed in the Historic American Buildings Survey of the United States Department of the Interior and its plans placed in the Library of Congress
Served as a Minute Ranger during the Civil War.
Charter member of Terry Post No. 64 of the Grand Army of the Republic, founded in 1892.
