Columbus Doss Lowry

Columbus Doss Lowry, age 89, of Route 1 Houston, died Friday, July 9 at Ivy Memorial Hospital in West Point. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 11 at Houston Funeral Home. Burial was in Prospect Cemetery with Rev. Gardy Bailey, Jr., officiating.

A lifelong resident of Chickasaw County, he was the son of the late Alfred Rushing Lowry and the late Margaret Doss Lowry. He was a retired farmer and cattleman, a veteran of World War I and was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church. He was also a Mason and Shriner, a member of Chickasaw County School Board for 30 years, Santa's Helper in Houston for 40 years and a member of the VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Fannie Louise Mottley Lowry of Houston; one son, John Alfred Lowry of Houston; four daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Maddox and Mrs. Joan Houston, both of Batesville, Mrs. Rosemary Rhone of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Louise Earnest of Houston; 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were his grandsons.

Houston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
