Edwin Carl Dietz, 80, of Lufkin, died Thursday, June 5, 2003.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 7, at 10:30 a.m., at First Lutheran Church in Lufkin with Rev. Frank Starr officiating. Interment followed in the Martindale Cemetery near Jasper.
Dietz was born June 29, 1922, in Kerrville, the son of Theodor J. Dietz and Clara Moellendorf Dietz.
He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps for three and one-half years and afterwards graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown.
Dietz was employed with Lufkin Industries for 32 years, first as the purchaser and later as manager of the industrial supplies division.
He was an active member of First Lutheran Church of Lufkin, was a merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts of America and served on the advisory committee of the Youth Baseball Association.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Sue Martindale Dietz; a son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Kimberly Dietz of Fort Worth; a son, Ted Dietz of Austin; one granddaughter, and one step-granddaughter.
He is also survived by four sisters, Elsie Weber, Harlingen, Edna Dietz and Margaret Rabenaldt, both of San Antonio, and Julia Fischer of Fredericksburg
Arrangements were under the direction of the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home of Lufkin.
