Dr. James L. Lipscomb died suddenly last Sunday morning, 26 December, 2a.m. A strangling sound awakened his wife, who sent someone to call his son, Dr. W.C. Lipscomb. He was too late to save him from what he said was paralysis of the heart. The funeral was Monday, 27 December 1897 with the local Masonic Lodge in charge. The escort was from the Commandery, Royal Arch Chapter and Blue Lodge. The procession of citizens following them was long.
