Jesse Coy served four years in Company E, 77th PA, V.I. during the Civil War and was Honorably Discharged on 16 February 1865 from Tripler Hospital in Columbus, Ohio following a gunshot wound to the thigh in the line of duty on 27 August 1864 in Atlanta, Georgia. The injury was followed by gangrene "so as to prevent marching". At the Personal description at enlistment: 5 feet 10 inches tall with gray eyes and dark hair with a dark complexion.
