MESA, Ariz. - Lawrence Gene "Smitty" Smith passed away March 16, 2010, in Mesa, Ariz. Lawrence was born Dec. 20, 1928, in Optima, Okla., to Howard Smith and Ethel Whaley. Smitty was a longtime resident of Hutchinson, Kan., where he worked as a carpenter. He is survived by his loving wife Maxine; his sons, Howard, Larry and Vernon; his brother, Fay Dean Smith; and his sister, Delores Cook.
