Meda Fehrman, 98, Ivanhoe, formerly of Lake Benton, died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Divine Providence Health Center in Ivanhoe.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 20 at First Baptist Church, Lake Benton, with Rev. Mark Fish officiating.

Honorary casket bearers were Meda's great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers were her grandchildren, Ronald Koopman, Julie Tykwinski, Carmen Leibfried, Paul Fehrman, Vernon Fehrman, Lisa Hansen, Jay Fehrman and Jon Fehrman.

Interment was in Memorial Hill Cemetery, Lake Benton.

Meda Abia Fehrman was born Dec. 27, 1907 in Ramsey County, and was the adopted daughter of Homer and Mary (Day) Babcock. She grew up in the Amboy and Vernon Center area in Blue Earth County, and attended school there, graduating from Amboy High School in 1925. She attended Mankato State Teachers College and in 1926 began teaching in country school, first at District 61 in Ash Lake Township in Lincoln County and then near Amboy.

She married Louis Pat Fehrman on April 13, 1929 at the Baptist parsonage in Garden City. They farmed in Diamond Lake Township near Lake Benton until 1940 when they purchased a farm in Ash Lake Township.

Following her husband's death in August 1963, she continued to live on the farm until November 1984 when she moved to Hole in the Mountain Apartments in Lake Benton.

She was hospitalized after a fall in 2003, and then became a resident in the nursing home at Divine Providence Health Center.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lake Benton; was very active in 4-H, extension service, community and church activities.

She is survived by her children, Mary Ann (Arthur) Koopman, Ivanhoe and Durwood "Bud" (Ardis) Fehrman, Lake Benton; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Marian Fehrman, Kalispell, Mont. And Rose Fehrman, Ivanhoe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat; brother, Arthur Babcock; grandson David Koopman and great-great-grandson, Joshua Tykwinski.
