Gordon Burton Inglis, Jr. was born August 6, 1924 in Springfield, Missouri to Gordon Burton Inglis and Faye Stewart Inglis.
Mr. Inglis married Betty Coday on March 21, 1947 in Springfield, Missouri. They had two daughters, Deborah (Bruce) Schuldt and Celeste Faye (Bob) Riner, who survive him. His wife, Betty, passed away 6.5 months after his death on August 11, 2010.
Gordon's half-brother Jack Inglis, of Illinois, survives him. He was predeceased by his half-sister, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Inglis Weidner, in 1981.
He was a graduate of California State University, Long Beach, California with a double major in English and History.
A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, Major Inglis retired from military service, and began a second career teaching English and History for 22 years, retiring from Pacific Grove Jr. High School in 1980. Upon retirement, he and his wife participated in community volunteer service for the next 20 years.
His lifelong love of history led into genealogical research. He was a member of numerous hereditary societies including Colonial Order of the Crown (Charlemagne); Order of Magna Charta Barons; Society of Descendants of Knights of the Most Noble Order of the Garter; Society of Mayflower Descendants; Sovereign Colonial Society of Americans of Royal Descent; the Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of the American Colonists.
