Golas, 94, of West Hartford, husband of the late Adele Greblunas Golas, passed away peacefully on Thursday (March 18, 2010) at Saint Mary Home.
Bill was born in Housatonic, MA, the son of the late Stanley and Frances Gralla Golas.
He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army from 1941-1945, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was assigned to Company D 4th Regiment where he trained and prepared serviceman for their call to duty.
Upon being honorably discharged, Bill worked as a die grinder at Mattituck Manufacturing Company of Waterbury for a short period of time before beginning a forty-five year career with The Stanley Provision Company of Hartford and Manchester until his retirement in 2000.
He was a life member of The American Legion Post 96 of West Hartford and The Polish Legion of American Veterans. A man of great integrity, Bill's faith, love for his family, and a good round of golf were his treasured pleasures in life.
He leaves his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and James Kelly of Farmington; his granddaughter, Erin Kelly Travia and her husband, Ryan; and his grandson, Brian M. Kelly and his fiancée, Jenna Andersen, all of Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main Street, Route 4, Unionville, on Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 8:30-9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea, Unionville. Burial with full military honors accorded will be held in Fairview Cemetery, Whitman Avenue, West Hartford. Published in the Hartford Courant on March 19, 2010.
