The Centralia Enterprise and Tribune 20 Aug 1898

Benton, Wis. Aug 17- Frank Gelling, an expert miner and mineralogist of this place, left his home at 2 o'clock last night, went to the Eureka mine, where he was employed as superintendent, entered the powder house and set off forty pounds of dynamite. The explosion was heard for miles. Only small fragments of the house and only one leg of the victim can be found. The general opinion is that is a case of suicide. He was about 55 years of age and had carried on mining operations in South Africa, California, Alabama and other places. He leaves four small children.
