She was born Ruth Helen Luckenbach, Adopted by the Sumner's The Sumners were her aunt and uncle whom she knew as Mom and Dad. She grew up just N. of Seattle in The Chelsea Neighborhood. Graduated from the University of Washington and there met and Married Earnest Farwell Dodge.
She graduated with a BS in Home Economics. Later after raising her children she became a teacher first at Sulton Union High School and later at Everett High School.
