Hanged with brother Thomas on conviction of murder for killing two peace officers Chester Ainsworth and Ted Moore.
On the way to make the arrest Sheriff Ainsworth picked up young 18 year old Ted Moore to help and then went to arrest the brothers for killing cattle at some time in April 1899 in the Chiricahua Mountains. The Halderman brothers were eating breakfast with J.W. Wilson their neighbor at his ranch where Chester Ainsworth and Ted Moore found them. The Haldeman brothers shot them and Chester fell to the ground. 18 year old Ted rode to his mothers house where he died in her arms.
There was a feud between going on between a Halderman boy and Moore over a daughter of Wilson. Later the girls said Moore fired the first shot. Later one of the daughters of Wilson commited suicide and the other went to an insane asylum.
The brothers claimed self defense.
Parents of the Haldeman brothers were Augusta (maiden name Lang) and Jesse Halderman.
