"Westy" was a retired farmer and stockman. In his younger years he was an pitcher for Walnut, Kansas area baseball teams. Mildred Lovelace played on the Parsons Girls ballteam. Her team was playing Girard, Ks and she hit a fly ball that was caught by Westy. That is how they met. Ball games at that time were a social gathering for young adults.
He was from a large family of eleven children.
They celebrated their 60th Wedding anniversary Oct. 16, 1995. They were married October 16, 1935 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Mound, Kansas.
He and Mildred had five daughters and eighteen grandchildren.
Westy was the family story teller. The farm that they lived on from 1947 to 1968 was the gathering place for all the Westhoffs. On Sundays, the visitors to the farm could number from 5 to 25.
