JOHNATHAN "JOHN" TIPPET HARGROVE was born on 22 November 1853 in Homer, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana to William Chester Hargrove and Susan Evelyn Tippet.

John married Katherine "Katie" Bolin on 28 July 1881 in Franklin Co, Texas, and they had FOUR children that are known of: Myrtle Hargrove (1882-1883), John Ennis Hargrove (1885-1918), Lilian Hargrove-Swain (1887-1976), and Gladys Evelyn Hargrove-Davidson (1891-1942).

John passed away on 20 December 1926 in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, and was buried near his parents at the Sulphur Springs City Cemetery in Hopkins County, Texas.

A successful businessman, devoted husband and father, and cherished by the community. He was a faithful decon of the Baptist Church in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and known to donate large sums of money to the church. He was a vital part of the construction of the Central Baptist Church in Muskogee and churches in his home town of Sulphur Springs, TX. Many of his years were connected with the Baptist Church State Mission and education work in Oklahoma.

The remains of John T. Hargrove were brought in on the L.R. & N Wednesday morning, the train being nearly two hours late. They were carried to the First Baptist church where funeral services were held at 2 o'clock in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends of the family. Rev. O. C. Payne conducted the funeral services and in so doing referred to the high Christian character of the deceased and his worth to the communities in which he had lived, deceased being a member of the committee that erected the church in which the funeral services were held. After the services at the church the body was taken to the City cemetery for burial, where a very large and beautiful floral offering covered his grave....Captain Dan. Bolin has returned to his home in Vernon after attending the funeral of his brother-in-law John T. Hargrove. Mrs. Mattie Mahaffey of Mount Vernon came in Wednesday from Hillsboro where she was spending some time with her daughter, to attend the funeral of her brother-in-law, John T. Hargrove, Wednesday....W. C. Hargrove is here from Pittsburg to attend the fuenral of his brother, John T. Hargrove, who died in San Antonio Monday....Mr. and Mrs. G. O. Hargrove are here from Dallas to attend the funeral of his brother, John T. Hargrove.
