Eleanor Green Scrivner passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010, after a brief unexpected illness.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday at Plymouth Park United Methodist Church, 1615 W. Airport Freeway, Irving. Interment: Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Brown's Memorial Funeral Home in Irving.
Memorials: Donations may be made to Plymouth Park United Methodist Church.
She was born July 22, 1926, in Snyder to James "T.J" and Blossom Ellen Dickson Green. She was the fourth of five siblings. Before retiring in 1983, Mrs. Scrivner had served as a teacher and a fiscal manager as she and her husband advanced as educators and school administrators in such places as Abilene, Mertzon, Rankin, Goliad, Dumas, Taylor and Irving. Through the years she made a difference in the lives of junior high and high school students, teaching business education classes and supporting her husband in his various coaching positions, principalships and superintendencies.
Mrs. Scrivner possessed a devotion as big as Texas to her family. She opened her home to family members and friends in distress and crisis. She not only raised her own two sons, but also helped in guiding some of their friends and their grandchildren to live purpose-filled lives with high expectations.
Survivors: Husband, Joe B. Scrivner of Irving; son, J. Bill Scrivner Jr. and wife, Rose, of Mobile, Ala.; son, James T. Scrivner and wife, Sharon, of Irving; brother, James "Junior" Thomas Green of Lubbock; sister, Patsy Ruth Affleck and husband, Bert, of Dallas; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and various cousins, nieces and nephews.
