J. D. Hill, 54, died shortly after 11 o'clock Wednesday morning as the result of pneumonia complications following an appendicitis opration here Sunday.
Joe D Hill was born in Arlington on June 4, 1882 and lived there until he was five years og age, when his family moved to Childress County. After residing there for one year, they returned to Arlington to make thier home.
On September 4, 1901, he married Miss Nettie Callie Green of Mansfield, and 16 years ago moved to this county. After residing in Wellingon for seven years, they moved to the place north of here, where they resided at the time of Mr. Hill's death.
Mr. Hill was elected as commissioner of Precinct 1 in 1932, and since that time has served the county faithfully and untiringly in this capacity. His efforts have been, in a large measure, responsible for the securing of pavement on Highway 4 through this county. He not only performed the duties of the office, but also spent his personal time and funds toward securing improvements for the county. At numerous times Mr. Hill spent many hours of work in an effort to secure lateral roads and connections into the main highway.
Resigning from the commissioner recently this year he dropped out of politics because of poor health and had decided to devote his entire time to his farm, just west of town. Mr. Hill came to Collingsworth County 16 years ago, and had devoted most of his time to farming.
Mr. Hill was the father of three children, two of whom preceded him in death. Jesse Tom and Andrew Jackson Hill, both of whom died 13 years ago following appendicitis operations, and in much the same manner as their father.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nettie Callie Hill, and one son, Teed, both of Wellington; two brothers, Will Hill and John Hill, both of Arlington; three sisters, Mrs. Lisa Lasater of Grand Prairie; Mrs. E. F. Lubke and Miss Betty Hill, both of Arlington.
