Harold "Harry" was the son of Max B Epstein and Sarah Zaretsky. Harry first was a peddler around the Bangor area. Then he started the Epstein Clothing Store in Bangor. From there he expanded the store to include women's and children's clothing which became the Epstein Department Store. He also had stores in several towns around Maine and also owned the Epstein Wholesale Clothing Company.
He married Ruth Freda Goldman of Boston, Massachusetts in about 1938. They had the following two daugthers:
*Gail Epstein
*Eleanor Epstein
