Mrs. Margaret Rice, 96, resident of Wittensville, better known as"Aunt Maggie," died in a local hospital Saturday morning, January 26, following an extended illness.
The daughter of the late David and Mary Johnson Osborne, she was born in Tazewell County, Virginia, January 15, 1867, and had lived at Wittensville for the past fifty-three years.
She was a member of the Christian Church. Her husband, George Rice, preceded her in death in 1933.Surviving are four sons, Winston and Donald Rice both of Wittensville; Theodore Rice, Jelico, Tenn.; McKinley Rice, Russell;three daughters, Miss Mary Esta Rice, Lexington; Mrs. Zora MaeCombs, Wittensville; Mrs. Ida S. Van Hoose, Nippa; a brother, David Osborne, Irving, Ill.Also surviving are twenty-eight grandchildren, fifty great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Jonesand Preston Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Hart, Rev. John Redman,and Rev. Millard Van Hoose as officiating ministers.
Burial was in the family cemetery at Wittensville.
