Dr. William E. Kishman, 65, former Lorain County coroner, died at his home Sunday after a short illness.

Shortly after he resigned his post as coroner in January, he was admitted to Lorain St. Joseph Hospital and Health Care Center for surgery. He had been coroner since 1973.

He was born in Lorain and lived in the area all his life.

He was a physician and served as medical director of St. Joseph Hospital and Health Care Center in Lorain.

He was a 1941 graduate of Lorin High School and later graduated from Connecticut Weslyn College. In 1947 Dr. Kishman graduated from the New York Medical College and went to Huron Road Hosptial, Cleveland in 1951 to serve his resdency.

He served in the Army Medical Corps until 1954, when he returned to Lorain and went into private practice.

In 1972 he ran as a Republican for the office of Lorain County Coroner. He was elected and served four terms.

When he retired he said both he and his wife "didn't want to be tied up to a phone or beeper for another four years. We want to relax and enjoy ourselves."

Dr. Kishman served on the staff of both St. Joseph Hospital and Health Center and Lorain Community Hospital.

He was a member of the Board of Trustees of St. Joseph Hospital and was past president of the medical staff of the hospital.

He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Lorain County Medical Society and the Ohio State Coroner's Association.

He was a Lorain High School booster team physician for 24 years and was an inductee in the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame.

Dr. Kishman is survived by his wife, Alice (nee Flaherty); sons William and Michael both of Lorain; daughters, Mrs. Richard (Patricia) Kishman-Doyle of Burke, Va., Mrs. Frank (Judy) Cellozzi of Lorain, Fred (Rose) Reynolds of Lorain,
Mrs. Keith (Stephanie) Waters of Lorain, and Debri Rivera of Columbus; 11 grandchildren; his mother Mrs. Goldie Kishman of Lorain; and a sister Mrs. Fred (Lenore)Hoefelder of Amherst.

Friends may call at the Schwartz, Spencer and Boyer Home for Funerals, Lorain, today 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m..

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Donald Yaekie will officate. Burial will be
in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
