TROUTMAN - Paul Vance Goodman, 82, of Troutman, formerly of China Grove, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville.
Born Aug. 15, 1927, in Rowan County to the late L. Homer and Coralea Huitt Goodman, he was a 1945 Landis High School graduate. He was a member of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church and a Sergeant in the U.S. Army serving in World War II.
Paul worked for many years in the shipping department in textiles and also worked for Wicks Lumber in Salisbury, Carter Lumber in Salisbury, Builders Supply in Mooresville and later worked for his cousin at China Grove Farm Supply.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Louise Mull Goodman whom he married March 11, 1951, who died May 28, 1991; brother Clyde R. Goodman; sisters Mary Lea Goodman (infant), Kathleen Goodman (2-1/2 years old); and niece Judy Goodman Crowell.
Survivors include daughter, Jackie Torrence Overcash and husband Vernon Reid (Red) of Troutman; granddaughter Traci Overcash Swaim and husband Dean of Troutman; great-granddaughter and love of his life Celeaha Swaim; sister Miss Nancy B. Goodman of China Grove "Five Forks"; sister-in-law Lynnie Ruth Goodman of China Grove; and two nephews of China Grove.
Visitation and Service: Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Moriah Lutheran Church, China Grove, with service following at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Joseph Tallent. Interment to follow in West Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Kevin Palmer, Bob Gleason, Kenny Ray Goodman, Richard Goodman, Lynn Goodman, Alan Goodman.
