She was one of the first female recording stars in an era when this was not deemed respectable; most womens' voices were just men singing in falsetto. She was a favorite of Thomas Edison, but recorded for other labels including Victor. She is probably best remembered for her duets with Billy Murray, a favorite of wind-up phonograph days.
