VanHorn Rites Held Tuesday at Atalissa Church
Atalissa —Funeral services for Jesse VanHorn, who died Sunday, were conducted Tuesday at the Christian church by the Rev. Gordon Smith of Clarence. Music at the service was by Mrs. Guy Hildebrand, Miss Bertha King and Mrs. Otto Marsteller. Pallbearers were Marvin Morrison, Alvin Werling, Stewart Arnold, Thomas Stewart, Thomas Carlisle and Harold Williams. Flower attendants were Mrs. George Adams and Mrs. Chris Schmidt. Burial was at Overman cemetery.
Mr. VanHorn was born in Louisa county Feb. 10, 1853, being a son of Jesse and Elizabeth Bender VanHorn. He married Eugenia Smith Oct. 7, 1880. Their home was made near Cairo until 1899 when they moved to a farm near Atalissa, where they lived until moving to Atalissa in 1915.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters, John VanHorn of Iowa City, Can VanHorn of Atalissa, Ernest VanHorn of Davenport, Mrs. Otis Arnold and Mrs. George Corriell of Atalissa . Eleven grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife and two daughters.
Mr. VanHorn was a member of the Masonic lodge. Masonic rites were conducted in connection with services Tuesday.
