Eugene Ivor Jones was born December 24, 1907 in Sifton, Manitoba, Canada to Eugenie Emma Genik, a native of Ukraine, and Charles Arthur Jones, a native of London, England. In 1916 the family immigrated to Goleta, California and settled on a ranch on Fairview Ave. and Calle Real where they raised walnuts and lemons. He attended local schools and graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1925, the first graduating class in the new school on Anapamu Street near Milpas. He married Ruth McAdams on February 5, 1933 and then began his career in banking in 1926 carrying on in that capacity mainly with County National Bank, retiring from its successor, Wells Fargo Bank in 1972. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of Santa Barbara Lodge #192 in 1955. As a young man he was an avid tennis player, competing in city tournaments. He played golf and participated in several dance groups. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Viente Cinco, Triente Cinco and Harmony Dance Clubs and belonged to the Conn Theater Organ group. He was also a charter member of the Fairs and Squares square dance club.
