George William Littlefield, was born George William Brown Jr, to George William Brown Sr and Mary E Tibbetts, in WAKEFIELD, NH. His mother was still young when he was born and his father was murdered when he was a young boy, so his mother gave him to his aunt Eliza Jane (Brown) who was then married to her 2nd husband, George Littlefield, and the boy took their name as his own.
His mother remarried and would latter come to collect him, but by then he was of an age to decide for himself that he would rather stay with his aunt and uncle. He also learned that he had two sisters at this time. However, his step-father was apparently a drunkard and the two girls had been shipped off to live with strangers. Young George, went out to find his sisters, and finding one of them, Lillian Frances Marden, wallowing in a mud hole, he brought this sister home to his aunt and uncle. He told them that he wanted his sister to live with them as well, but when they initially refused, he said that he would then run off to raise her by himself. So his aunt and uncle relented. He renamed her, after his aunt's now 3rd husband, Augusta Gertrude Nutter.
He later went on to marry Lillian Agnes Pike and moved the whole family to Lisbon Falls, Maine. They raised a rather large family of eight children:
1. Elizabeth Jane 'Lizzy' Littlefield Bard, 1877 – 1947
2. William Albert 'Willie' Littlefield, 1878 – 1960
3. Lillian Agnes 'Lilly' Littlefield Cornish, 1880 – 1971
